1/ The Academy
With the financial fair play, it’s something which will become important for all clubs, it will be important to have young talents coming from the academy to the A team for many reasons, including financial reasons.
The example to follow is the one of clubs like Ajax, Arsenal or Barça which have young players coming from Academy and playing in the A team. In the future there will be a lot of clubs which will have to go through these steps.
To play at Man City City is different now than 5 years ago. We need to produce good players to play and win the champions league, it’s another level.
We have very good players especially Marcos Lopes who played with A team last week and did a rather good match and has a good potential. Now we have to create this team because we have a lot of talented players and my role is to make them understand that they must help the team. This will make the team better and themselves even better too.
Marcos Lopes is a player who is technically above the average, goes very well with the ball and is very efficient in front of the goal. He can play on a side as a left winger or he can play in a 4-3-3 system as one of the two offensive midfielders. He is physically very strong and very clever tactically and he is only 17… He has a good future.
Chances of Marcos Lopes to play in the A team more often?
Why not, he showed yesterday (Game on Tuesday 24/09/13) he had the potential but it was only one match. Our will is that he makes a career. What is interesting is that the coach uses him when he needs, that he integrates him in the A team. Therefore Lopes can feel which behaviour a A player must have, can train with players like Silva or Yaya Touré. For a 17- year old player it’s extraordinary. He has a great potential and I believe in him because he works very well during the training sessions.
3/ Playing system
Here? It’s to play. We want to play, to double the passes, to play forward, offensive, control the ball, dominate the opponent thanks to the technical quality we have in the team. We play in a different system than the A team but the philosophy is the same. At every age level we want to dominate the match and control the ball. Whatever the team we will face, we will always play in 4-3-3 because it’s one of the best systems to develop the young players.
About Txiki Begiristain (Man. City technical director) and Ferran Soriano (Man. City managing director) and their Spanish influence
They have an extraordinary experience. What they experienced with Barca is of course to be taken into account. But they do not want to do “copy paste” because the mentality is different in England and at Man City.
