Eurosport CEO Jean-Thierry Augustin during SportsPro LIVE debate on March 13 in London
Question : Where does the pay television and multi-screen model go from here?
J.-T. Augustin: "I think live sport is not only the best live experience on sports broadcasting, but in broadcast as a whole. It’s just wonderful entertainment. For us, it’s just trying to find - in a very French fashion - a captivating experience. We are just trying to get the best experience on television. Fans will want to come to a more individualised experience."
“Eurosport Events has been a great way to develop synergies inside the group, focusing mainly on motorsports. We’ve been developing the the WTCC for ten years. Sebastian Loeb has joined from WRC. It’s a great product now. We wouldn’t have been in such a strong position to build that product if we hadn’t been able to showcase ourselves to so many millions of homes in the past. This is linked to owning content and sports rights costs. We give a very large distribution and very large public to our content. It’s a great way to build events. We’ve done it with the ERC as well.”
Question : What’s the role for out of venue events that don’t have a paid audience in the future?
J.-T. Augustin: "With cycling, we’re addressing a core audience and in Europe the sport is understood and well-watched. It’s one of our highest ratings winners."
